The Story of Mulco

As a brand, Mulco started its journey in 1958. Mr. Muller, the head honcho of Muller and Co., planned of taking on the expensive Swiss watches in the North American, European, and South American market.

The American company sourced Swiss-only parts and assembled together in the US. Despite all the skepticism regarding the success of the brand against Swiss masterclass, Mulco got quite popular.

However, the success of the company was quite short-lived!

In 1973, a Swiss competitor bought the company to take out the competition. After the purchase, the new owners completely sidelined the Mulco brand.

The brand died!

Things took a different turn in 2006, again. A group of entrepreneurs bought back Mulco. Also, judging the trend shift, the new owners hired top fashion designers and focused heavily on the looks of the watch.

A massive credit goes to Jennifer Kamhazi Bloch, the Creative Director of Mulco who stood with the company since the revival. She is the visionary who inspired all the Mulco watches in the market right now.

Right now, Mulco is quite popular among the teens and revolutionists as a prestige watch brand.

Mulco Blacksteel Swiss Multifunction Movement Men’s Watch – Premium Option

Mulco Blacksteel Swiss Multifunction Movement Men’s Watch

Mulco BlackSteel is one of the more popular and newer models from Mulco. The most iconic part of this watch is the textured design on the dial. I’ve complained against the finishing quality of the dial. But this one is a big exception!

The design of the day, date, and 24-hour subdial is unique too. Design-wise, BlackSteel might be their best watch.

However, the high price tag might be an issue here

Mulco Blue Marine Trio Swiss Chronograph Movement Watch – Best Ladies’ Watch

Mulco Blue Marine Trio Swiss Chronograph Movement Watch

The turquoise-rose-gold-silver combination is the hero of the Mulco Blue Marine Trio Swiss Chronograph Movement Watch. Although Mulco labels it as a unisex watch, it’s extremely popular among the ladies.

The ISA 8171A is a remarkable caliber with a huge number of features too.

But the bulky size of the case was a bummer to me.

Is Mulco Good Brand?

As you know, Mulco, despite being a 62-year old brand, actually entered the modern market in 2006. It’s only normal that not a lot of people have heard the name of the brand.

So, Mulco doesn’t have the brand value or sentiment.

Even after offering Swiss movement and parts, people still think Mulco to be an unknown Chinese brand. Also, Mulco follows a cost cutting strategy to cheap out on the choice of materials on some models.

Overall, Mulco is a great watch company that brings innovative design on the table. But due to the lack of marketing and branding efforts, it’s still an unknown name.

What Did We Like About the Mulco Brand?

The best thing about Mulco watches is the design. All of their watches have bold and powerful design. At the same time, you’re getting original Swiss movements.

So, you’re getting a great looking watch with above-average quality.

But the most appealing thing about Mulco is aggressive pricing. If you think abut what you’re getting, it almost feels like that company losing money!

What Didn’t We Like About the Mulco Brand?

While one of the strongest sides of Mulco is the offering of genuine Swiss movement. Before you glorify the brand, there’s something that you need to know.

Most of the watches from Mulco come with ISA or lower-end Ronda movements. In the retail market, these calibers cost around $30 only. Some of these calibers even cost less than $10!

I feel that Mulco is over-hyping the Swiss movement here and those who aren’t watch geeks fall right into the trap.

Mulco should let the consumers know what caliber they are using in their watches.

Then, comes the issue of finishing. I don’t have anything to complain about the case, bezel, or the strap. They have done a superb job there.

But, the inside of the dial feels cheap and seems to have poor finishing quality.

Conclusion

So, what is the best Mulco watch? It’s really hard to call one particular watch to be the clear winner here.

Still, if I had to, I would put MULCO Unisex Ilusion Analog Display Swiss Quartz Watch in the first place. The color combination and the design aesthetics of this watch on top of the line.

Then, Mulco Unisex Bluemarine Glass Chronograph Swiss Multifunctional Movement Watch would stand in the second place.

Finally, Mulco Blue Marine Trio Swiss Chronograph Movement Watch would grab the third place for being the best watch for the ladies.
